Australia’s economy is booming, but youth unemployment remains a big problem, with more than half of the population aged between 16 and 24 without work.

Within some remote communities, youth unemployment has reached more than 50 per cent. It is particularly high within immigrant communities and among the country’s indigenous population.

But as Al Jazeera’s Andrew Thomas reports from Melbourne, hope exists in the form of a government-sponsored programme designed to teach young Australians the skills that will lead to employment.
